What I hate about my writing: Trying to get the full hour in when my watch accidently resets itself and erases what I already had done for the day. I’d rather use my timer at home.
The Good: Look, more people! Look more characters!
The Bad: Crap, I forgot to cast Sprite. I think it was the make up issue. *Sigh* Well, I have another homework assignment now.
Fave Cain line: “Bossy little girl, aren’t you?”
Fave DG line: I’m having a lovely vacation. We really should thank our travel agent.”
Fave Hodges line: “Looks like a change in location of the buggering.”
Fave Betsy line: “What the hell are you shrill-gorged pignuts doing?”
Fave Sprite line: “Kissy face later. Feed bellies now.”
What I'm looking forward to: Singing! I’m finally to that part.
What I'm not looking forward to: Have to buzz through a movie in order to get the ship plans. Or I’ll have to pay for the plans. I really don’t want to have to pay for research.
Cracking the whip on my writing in order to produce more of it. This blog has nothing but snippets of what I accomplish daily.

What I hate about my writing: Didn’t get into bed quite early enough. Blurry eyed typing is always fun.
The Good: They finally made it on board the You and What Navy! I get to start introducing the rest of main cast.
The Bad: Since I’m happy with my progress, I will complain about my current writing notebook. I started off in a large ruled-notebook Moleskin and loved it, but decided to use up some of the collection journals and blank books I have collected before buying more (even though it’s a great size for my purse too). The second journal was okay, but currently I’m using a binder with 8.5 x 5.5-inch paper and I hate it. It does not travel as well as the other two journals did.
Fave Cain line: “Did people on the Other Side understand what you were saying?”
Fave DG line: Wyatt, you are like last on the list of things that scare me.”
Fave Hodges line: “Bastard thinks he can attack a free man.” Hodges backhanded Cain’s face. “I’ll show you what your place is!”
What I'm looking forward to: Getting to the pirate sing-along. Yes, this will qualify as a song fic, but probably not ones people are used to reading.
What I'm not looking forward to: Getting up early so I can work on this and Faulkner.

What I hate about my writing: Trying to write during the horrid SciFi cut down of Tin Man. I keep jumping out of the computer chair to go screech at the TV. How could they cut Glitch’s whole bit about dancing? See they left in the fight, which is awesome, but the whole dancing conversation with Cain earlier sets up WHY and WHERE they are having the fight with the Longcoats! Oh, but they left in all the cheesy bad monolouge once DG remembers in the cave. Didn’t chop that conversation. Took out the “lions, tigers, and bears” reference, but left that alone. What’s with chopping all of Glitch’s funny lines? I’m going to bed before they piss me off more.
The Good: Got my hour done. And I think I figured out my transition in the later scene in the long hand. Now I’m just worried if perhaps I’m resolving the DG and Cain tension too earlier. OH, only resolve half of it. Save the other half for later. Let me take some notes. Yeah, that’ll work.
The Bad: Didn’t get it before work and had to squeeze it during lunch and after I got home. I like having it done before I go to work.
Fave Cain line: “Like what you see?”
Fave DG line: “It’s a good thing you weren’t a model for any of my art classes.” DG continued staring at the metal grating. Cain only hummed interrogatively. “You would’ve gotten mobbed.”

Fave Cain line: “I never wanted Jeb to be an only child. I’m not going to reject you or our baby. It’s a miracle, not a mistake.”
Fave DG line: “Asking ‘are you in the mood for sex’ is a lot shorter than your version.”

Fave Cain line: “In all honesty, the maids just sounded curious. Can’t blame them; Glitch cleans up pretty well. Nobles get worried about bloodlines and dynasties. The Commons are free to experiment. It’s not encouraged but if marriage follows, nobody complains.”
Fave DG line: “I never thought I’d have the opportunity to quote Adam Sandler, ‘but this is information that would have been more useful yesterday!’”
What I'm looking forward to: Getting DG and Cain introduced to the rest of the real cast, so I can start quoting more people in the metrics.

The Bad: I’ve been missing typing. I have got to get my sleep schedule back on time so I will wake up with enough time to work.
Fave Cain line: “I think we’re on a first name basis now, DG.”
Fave DG line: “And if you don’t want me to do this for you, do it for me. Don’t let my first time in the O.Z. be with one of those pigs outside or whoever they sell me to.”

I've been bad with the typing and the reading and everything else. I swear I'll make up for it tonight.
In the mean time, I realized I haven't posted my Comprehensive Concept yet.
Away from the familiar O.Z., the runaway Princess and the Tin Man join Captain Betsy "Blood-rage" Bobbins' quest and cross swords with sullen pirates, the navy out to stop Bobbins, and legendary evil lurking in the Nonestic Ocean.

What I hate about my writing: Not able to type a thousand words in thirty minutes.
The Good: I managed to get into the State Library and out with only one book! The Bad: Mainly because I couldn’t find one book with ship plans for a brig. I found Anatomy of the Ship: Captain Cook’s Endeavour by Karl Heinz Marquardt. This series of book is exactly what I need, since you could probably use the research and drawings to build a replica, but the Endeavour isn’t a brig. That means I need to do some more research online. And I have to rewrite the under deck descriptions that I have already started on.
Fave Cain line: “Get your filthy hands off her!”
Fave DG line: “Go scrub your own dirty mind!”
What I'm looking forward to: Looking for more ship plans.
What I'm not looking forward to: Figuring out what would be the best amount of time to spend on writing that is still less than an hour, so I can continue with my progress on Faulkner and Beloved.

What I hate about my writing: Being stuck because of no power.
The Good: Now for chapter two.
The Bad: I could get so much done if I had power. I have heat—that runs off natural gas as well as my stove—but no lights or computer. However, I do have generator. If I don’t see any sign of power today, I’m plugging the generator in so I can get my computer projects dones (or at least moved on). I ended up spending an hour on longhand writing, and only got fifteen minutes typing in once the power came back on at 3pm. It was weird.
Fave Cain line: “Sometimes, you can’t help what you feel.”
Fave DG line: “But there’s so much of the O.Z. I haven’t seen. Western Territories seemed like a good place to start since you were already there.”
What I'm looking forward to: The smut! But it’s still a few chapters away.
What I'm not looking forward to: Project needs a reference guide of ship deck typical layouts. I have found picture references to describe ship scenes, but I have no idea if I have the sections of the ship in proper areas. I also have no clue where the gun desk should go, where the crew should sleep, did I make the Captain’s Quarters too large?
My personal pirate refence books don’t cover ships. Actually, the best one I found was a ship model building book in a library. I’m hoping to refind it again and time photocopy

What I'm not looking forward to: Getting too far off track.

What I hate about my writing: Nothing today!
The Good: Now for chapter two.
The Bad: I need to finish off other items on the To Do list. Making the bed and getting my writing hour done just isn’t cutting it.
Fave Cain line: “I promised the Consort to stay with you and keep you safe. Easiest promise I ever made. All I ever wanted to do was stay with you.”
Fave DG line: “Not you too! Damnit, I’m not stupid! So what if I don’t know how to tell if a lunch pail is ripe, what a Wheeler is, why Munchkins overcompensate height issues with feathers and war paint? You don’t have television or rock ‘n roll, or even asphalt! See, you don’t know what the hell I’m talking about, but I don’t call you a dummy. What else do you have to hold over your head? Jesus, a mobat could figure it out!”
What I'm looking forward to: The smut! But it’s still a few chapters away.
What I'm not looking forward to: Ship descriptions. I need to find some diagrams.

The Bad: Work was hell and I still managed to get that much done in about forty-five minutes.

Tin Man: Pirates Metrics 1
Tin Man: Pirates of the Nonestic
Progress Bar from Writertopia
So I’m still trying to figure out all this work life balance stuff. And why do I always decide that this is a good experiment for December? My alternative seasonal disorder is a topic for another post; what I have so far managed to accomplish is a sane writing deadline.
Write for one hour a day at the computer on whatever the hell I want to work on. I need to have 1133 daily words. I picked Tin Man: Pirates of the Nonestic to start with, and if I manage to pull off the juggling routine, I may add more to the mix. I added more projects to the Writing Projects list and the length it grew to frightened me. Granted, some projects are still on there because of issues beyond actually writing (editing, posting on website, etc.), so I’m trying not to get overwhelmed. Go to the happy place with the lousy title. If Baum wanted to name the ocean Nonsensical, why didn’t he just go ahead and name it Nonsensical? And it shouldn’t matter except I am drawing a parallel with the title and therefore stuck with the word I hate Nonestic. Oh well, at least, my pirates are fun.
Right, so I calculated at that schedule, I should finish the first draft estimates at 70,000 words long on February 4th. Super! I love that date already. This is only counting words typed and I haven’t put any limitations on what I managed to get done in the notebooks.

What I hate about my writing: Actually, nothing today.
The Good: OUTSTANDING! I got my hour in and went over 1133 words. The marathon says I should finishes on January 27th.
The Bad: Scared that this awesome progress will go away once I have typed everything I have already written.
Fave Cain line: “You haven’t been stationed here long, have you? First thing to learn is the Royals are always in a snit about something.”
Fave Glitch line: “The Queen unfortunately didn’t find DG’s ideas humorous or helpful. I don’t know who was more livid: the Queen because DG wouldn’t obey or DG because the Queen wanted to marry her to that asinine imbecile.”
Fave Azkadellia line: “I hope they taught you more than just how to take a bullet for the Mystic Man in Tin Man training.”
Fave Ahamo line: “Since Galinda isn’t listening, I thought I’d try my hand at playing Sam Spade. But you found Commander Cain, so I’ll hand things over to the professionals.”
What I'm looking forward to: The smut! Actually, I’m quite proud of the smut so far in this one, though I doubt I could ever be a writer in this fandom that can managed to keep DG and Cain apart for the whole entire story. I admire those who can.

Tin Man: Pirates 02
Trying out something new for me, apparently other people have done it for creating characters for a long time. I'm casting the roles in the novel. Yeah, it's a novel. I'm about half-way through the Master Story Summary and I feel very confident the finished bit will fit a novel length requirements.
Anyways back to casting. I never tried to do it with other fanfics before, but since I don't have any cartoon imagery messing with my head for this fandom, it has come together relatively easy. So I present you with most of the cast of Tin Man: Pirates of the Nonestic Ocean. (I still hate the title. :p)
Wyatt Cain, former Tin Man (portrayed by Neal McDonough)
Um, why no, I don't think he's eye candy at all. What made you ask? Moving on.
DG, Princess DorothyGale of the O.Z. (portrayed by Zooey Deschanel)
Actually, Toto/Tutor is only referred to and not actually present in the story.
Princess Azkadellia of the O.Z. (portrayed by Kathleen Robertson)
Her clothes have changed.
Glitch or Ambrose, Advisor to the Queen (portrayed by Alan Cumming)
Raw, a Viewer (portrayed by Raoul Trujillo)
Jeb Cain, Wyatt Cain's son (portrayed by Andrew Francis)
The Queen and Ahamo, DG's and Azkadellia's parents (portrayed by Anna Galvin and Ted Whittall)
Now for the characters not established in the miniseries, but found in my story. Depending on how well you know Ozian lore, some may sound familiar.
Captain Betsy "Bloodrage" Bobbins (portrayed by Eliza Dushku)
Quartermaster Fred Jenkins (portrayed by Peter Michael Goetz)
Carpenter Inge Spencer (portrayed by Julito McCullum)
Cabin Girl Sprite, a Viewer child (portrayed by Rachel Covey)
Quincy, Tailor Extraordinare (portrayed by Meshach Taylor)
The Shaman (portrayed by Ruby Dee)
Dani, a Chicken:
Dani's preferred method of transportation (and now that I have started using it I wish I had thought of it earlier):
Dani's disguise:
Malachite Granite (portrayed by Jake Gyllenhall)
Treasure Granite (portrayed by unknown kid, but isn't she adorable!)
And here comes (well, the casting might give some of this away) the main nasties and annoyances of the novel.
Nick Pyrite (portrayed by Timothy Spall)
Nome King (portrayed by the guys who put him together for Return to Oz)
Thomas Slate (portrayed by John Hensley)
Crewman Hodges (portrayed by F. Murray Abraham)
Prince Aedan of Aurissau (portrayed by Edward Finlay)
Lord Langwidere, Ambassador from the Land of Ev (portrayed by Joss Ackland)
